Rumor Source Detection With Multiple Observations Under Adaptive Diffusions

چکیده
Recent work, motivated by anonymous messaging platforms, has introduced adaptive diffusion protocols which can obfuscate the source of a rumor: “snapshot adversary” with access to subgraph “infected” nodes do no better than randomly guessing entity node. What happens if adversary multiple independent snapshots? We study this question when underlying graph is infinite d-regular tree. show that (1) weak form obfuscation still possible in case two snapshots, but (2) already three observations there simple algorithm finds rumor constant probability, regardless protocol. also characterize tradeoff between local spreading and for (under single snapshot). These results raise questions about robustness anonymity guarantees information social networks.

Rumor Source Detection for Rumor Spreading on Random Increasing Trees
In a recent paper, Shah and Zaman proposed the rumor center as an effective rumor source estimator for rumor spreading on random graphs. They proved for a very general random tree model that the detection probability remains positive as the number of nodes to which the rumor has spread tends to infinity. Moreover, they derived explicit asymptotic formulas for the detection probability of random...
متن کاملAdaptive Rumor Spreading
Motivated by the recent emergence of the so-called opportunistic communication networks, we consider the issue of adaptivity in the most basic continuous time (asynchronous) rumor spreading process. In our setting a rumor has to be spread to a population; the service provider can push it at any time to any node in the network and has unit cost for doing this. On the other hand, as usual in rumo...
متن کاملDistributed Rumor Blocking with Multiple Positive Cascades
Social networks have become important platforms for communication and information exchange. Unfortunately, misinformation and rumor also spread rapidly and widely through online social networks. Therefore, rumor controlling is one of the critical problems in social networks. It is often assumed that there is a single authority whose goal is to minimize the spread of rumor. However, what if ther...
متن کاملFaster Rumor Spreading with Multiple Calls
We consider the random phone call model introduced by Demers et al.,which is a well-studied model for information dissemination in networks. One basic protocol in this model is the so-called Push protocol that proceeds in synchronous rounds. Starting with a single node which knows of a rumor, every informed node calls in each round a random neighbor and informs it of the rumor. The Push-Pull pr...
متن کاملCompressed Anomaly Detection with Multiple Mixed Observations
We consider a collection of independent random variables that are identically distributed, except for a small subset which follows a different, anomalous distribution. We study the problem of detecting which random variables in the collection are governed by the anomalous distribution. Recent work proposes to solve this problem by conducting hypothesis tests based on mixed observations (e.g. li...
